Producer: The Antinori family have been producing wine in Tuscany for six centuries, and exporting it for four. The purchase of the Tignanello estate in 1900 marked the beginning of a remarkable period of expansion which shows no signs of abating. Through judicious acquisition of vineyards and an uncanny knack for developing iconic wines, Antinori has become Tuscany`s - arguably Italy`s - pre-eminent wine producer, with an important presence in Piedmont, Lombardy, Umbria and Puglia as well as their Tuscan heartland.

Vineyard: Marchese Antinori is produced exclusively from specially selected grapes grown on three of Antnori`s estates in Chianti Classico: Santa Cristina, Peppoli and Badia a Passignano. Unlike 2003, with its high temperatures and drought, 2004 will be remembered for its perfect combination of a late crop with a warm, sunny September.

Winery: After destemming and gentle crushing, the must was fermented in stainless steel vats, with a longer maceration period, slightly higher fermentation temperature and more frequent racking than normal to extract the best out of the crop. Malolactic fermentation took place in one and two year old French barriques. Following the malolactic fermentation, the best lots were selected, blended and put back into the barrels for fourteen months. After a second tasting and selection, the final wine was bottled.

Taste: Spicy hints of cinnamon and cloves, alongside oaky and piquant peppery aromas. A rounded, creamy, sweet and well-balanced palate. Aftertaste of incense, balsamic and more spice.
