Producer: Situated in Maremma on the Tuscan coast, ninety-six kilometres southwest of Florence, the Guado al Tasso estate extends from the green hills surrounding the old village of Bolgheri down to the sea. This beautiful plain is called the anfiteatro bolgherese due to the fact that the hills enclose the plains overlooking the sea to form a natural amphitheatre. The Bolgheri DOC started out as rose-only; whites were permitted in 1984, and ten years later the laws finally recognized the extraordinary success of the mould-breaking Cabernet-based reds.

Vineyard: The vineyards lie at 45-60 metres above sea level, with a rocky limestone soil. Cuttings were supplied by the on-site nursery.

Winery: The grapes were destemmed, gently crushed, and fermented in stainless steel for between ten and fifteen days at 28-30C. The wine was then transferred to oak barrels for malolactic fermentation, racked, blended and returned to barrel for eight months ageing.

Taste: Fragrant fruity aromas, particularly plum, followed by delicate mint and green tea notes. On the palate it is full-bodied and smooth with a long finish.

Awards: Silver Medal, Decanter Awards 2009
