Region: Sicily
Producer: Montalto
Alcohol: 14%
Grape Varieties: 100% Nero d'Avola
Producer: Montalto is a family-run winery in the west of Sicily. The family coat of arms and the sun that appears on the bottle signify Sicilian warmth and family pride.
Vineyard: Organically grown grapes were cultivated at 250-350 metres above sea level in the area of Salaparuta in the west of Sicily. The soil is clayey and the climate is Mediterranean, very dry and hot. The vineyard is free from pesticides, herbicides and chemical fertilizers. The grapes were harvested by hand.
Winery: Grapes were destemmed, crushed and transferred to stainless steel tanks for a six-day maceration period with daily pumpovers. After maceration, the wine underwent malolactic fermentation. There was no oak ageing.
Taste: Notes of ripe red fruits, sweet spices and liquorice. The fruit flavours continue on the round, generous palate.
